This is the third CD for vocalist Maye Cavallaro on Redhead Records. A long time bay area favorite, Cavallaro is gaining wider recognition for her newest release, a collaboration with jazz guitarist Mimi Fox, reed player Paul McCandless and multi-percussionist Ian Dogole. Hearts features a contemporary approach to 12 timeless songs from Elvis Costello to Duke Ellington. The spare sound and uncommon instrumentation create a quiet, relaxing, soothing, yet highly rhythmic musical landscape that showcases the singer’s mellow contralto, the melody, the lyrics and the emotion of each song. Mimi Fox plays six different guitars including a custom-made baritone electric. Ian Dogole adds udu and African talking drum, and Paul McCandless plays English horn and soprano saxophone. The selections include a variety of genres and moods and range from the funky and bluesy Save Your Love For Me, to the romantic and lilting Till There Was You, to the world rhythms of Under African Skies, to the latin-tinged title track Hearts.

The second CD from Maye Cavallaro on Redhead Records features some of the Bay Area's finest musicians. The music runs the gamut from the latin flavored title track "Never Let Me Go," featuring the fluglehorn of Allen Smith, to Jimmy Rowles little heard tune "Baby, Don't You Quit Now," featuring a trio with guitarist Mimi Fox. In between there are blues, beautiful old standards from the great American songbook, the Lennon-McCartney tune "In My Life," |
